Nordson Medical

Position: Information Technology Intern
Time Worked: May 2020 - August 2020
Description:
I was lucky enough to be accepted back at Fluortek Inc. for another internship even during the Covid-19 pandemic. During the first portion of the summer, most of the work I did was being done from the office I was working on, communicating with co-workers solely through phone calls, email, and Microsoft Teams. This improved my communication skills over these mediums greatly, and I learned how to better explain things to my co-workers over the phone, and by using remote desktop software. One of my main projects was working on creating a small server from an old PC where we would be able to store the inventory of the IT department. I created the server, database and get an API working where the user could search using multiple criterias. At this point the company was purchased by Nordson Medical, and the project was scrapped due to new hardware coming in and previously implemented programs that already tracked inventory. I made it my goal to reduce the amount of incomplete IT ticket requests by at least 75% and I completed that task in about 3 weeks. I closed over 60 tickets, in which many of them required extensive research and testing to find the solution. I was tasked with restoring the only Mac in the company, and solving the many issues that were associated with it, and it's problems connecting to the company's windows based servers and infrustructure. Later in the summer we were tasked with documenting all the information we could regarding the company infrustructure and IT assets. This took several weeks along with other daily tasks and tickets. At the end of the summer, I got to work with the transition team to set up all the new servers, switches and routers.

Fluortek Inc.

Position: Management Information Systems Intern
Time Worked: May 2019 - August 2019
Description:
When I started working at Fluortek, it was the first internship I had gotten, and the first job I had where I was working in my career field. For the first several weeks I did basic things like build PCs for new employees and upgraded PCs for employees that were due. I also went around and implemented new programs in some departments, and updated other programs to the most recent version. Other tasks undertaken was completing tickets that co-workers had created. One of the larger projects that I lead over the summer was a mapping of all the aspects of the network, and documentation of the programs that the MIS department had and which employees had licenses. There was very little documentation about any aspects of the business, so I was tasked with changing that and creating these documents. I mapped all the connections in the server racks to their locations throughout the building and created a way of easily determining the locations. During the last part of my internship, my taks included more software based aspects such as creating a working test environment based in Linux where I installed a new potential ERP system named Odoo so the department could test it and provide a proof of concept to upper management. During the duration of summer, one of the most important parts of my job was developing a simple knowledge of the applications being used so I could solve problems that arose with them.

Easton Area Public Library

Position: Youth Service Desk Associate
Time Worked: August 2013 - August 2018
Description:
I was hired to work a part time paging position when I was 15 years old, which means I was simply supposed to shelve books, make sure the stacks were in good order and help patrons find items. For the first several months I did tasks similar to those previouly mentioned. After gaining some experience, I was able to complete my job very quickly, so I was able to spend time working on artwork for the room, and creating posters and advertisments for programs that the department would be holding in the future. At this point, I was being trusted to manage the department by myself when others were in programs. Once I turned 18, I was promoted to a desk associate, where I was able to work hours strickly at the desk by myself. Often times I would either open for the day or close for the night. While many aspects of this job were not difficult, my skills that involved communicating with the public and answering their questions greatly increased and that is something that I have taken from job to job. I believe many of these skills to be critical, and being able to quickly find a solution to a question is important in any career.
